The Golden Age Hiking Club is run by volunteers; it organizes hikes for reasonably fit people who are approximately 55 years or older. The Club organizes three levels of hikes every week year-round. See below for details.

The initial fee for new members is $25.00 and thereafter the annual fee is $15.00.

All hikers hike at their own risk. Hikers must sign a waiver accepting that risk. All hikers must wear appropriate footwear and clothing, carry sufficient water and food and be prepared for changes in weather. Hikers are expected to learn the hikes, prepare the hikes and to lead hikes. All hikers must stay behind the hike coordinator and in front of the appointed-tail-end person.

The code of conduct for GAHC hikes is described in the Club Rules for Hiking under: HIKES/Hiking Rules

The Club has prepared a Book of Trailheads which describes the access directions to the trailheads of most of the GAHC hikes. A digital version of the book is made available to new Club members.

Although carpooling is recommended and facilitated as much as possible by posting meeting places for particular hikes on the hike schedules, this should be a personal choice between participants.

Hiking Groups

The Club organizes three levels of hikes each week in order to meet the fitness level of its members.

Tuesday hikes are the hardest and usually demand a high level of fitness. Tuesday hikes involve considerable elevation gains and are often quite long.

Thursday Plus hikes are also physically demanding. Thursday Plus hikes are slower paced that the Tuesday hikes but may still involve considerable elevation gains and are often quite long.

Thursday hikes are not as difficult as the other two.

For further details see the GAHC hike classification rating information.

If you are in doubt about a hike, contact the Hike Coordinator.

Hiking Schedules

The club prepares hiking schedules regularly for each of the three Hiking Groups, which describe each hike, its difficulty, the meeting place, the hike coordinator’s name. The hike schedules are emailed to the members and posted on the GAHC website.

Guests

Occasional guests are welcome provided that the club member sponsoring them is sure the hike is within their capability and are properly equipped for the hike. The club member must get permission from the hike coordinator to bring along a guest. Members who bring a guest on a hike are responsible for the hiking competence of the guest. Should the guest need to return to the trailhead, it is expected that the club member would accompany him or her.
